Castle ruins, which include a Gothic residential tower and a baroque palace, located in the province. Lower Silesia, in the Trzebnica poviat, in the Żmigród commune, on the Barycz river. The whole complex located in the charming p Żmigród Castle was probably built in 1296. It is supposed that it was still a wooden building. It was a building on an irregular plan with a tower standing from the north and an entrance gate from the south, standing among the backwaters of the Barycz River and surrounded by a moat. With the death of the last Piast Oleśnicki, Konrad Biały, in 1492, the city and the castle became the property of the Czech king Władysław Jagiellończyk, who transferred the local lands to the Polish feudal from Wielkopolska, Zygmunt Korcbok from Witków. Wilhelm Kurzbach was the builder of the second present tower in 1560. It is a four-sided, four-storey residential and defensive structure. The Kurzbach family owned the castle until 1592, when it was sold to Adam Schaffgotsch. At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, the castle was twice destroyed by fires. The rebuilt and strongly fortified castle successfully repelled the attacks of the Swedish army for two years. He was captured in 1642 and served the Swedes for the next 8 years as a base for Silesia. From the mid-seventeenth century to the end of World War II, the owners were the von Hattzfeld family. At that time, the castle was rebuilt into a magnificent baroque palace in the years 1655-1657. Medieval buildings were removed and only the tower standing today is preserved.
