Cistercian Abbey in Lubiąż - a Cistercian monastery complex in Lubiąż, one of the largest monuments of this class in Europe, which is also the largest Cistercian abbey in the world. This abbey is called a masterpiece of Silesian Baroque. In 1150 a Benedictine monastery was built, who built the church of St. Jakub, but before 1163 they left Lubiąż. In 1163 the first settlement of the Cistercian order in Silesia took place here. This was done by the Silesian prince Bolesław the Tall. He brought the Cistercians from Pforty on the Saale in Thuringia. Over the centuries, thanks to princely and private grants, the monastery became one of the largest landowners in Silesia. In the monastery, which in the Middle Ages was an important center of culture and literature, many important 12th-century works were created: "Chronicle of Polish Dukes", "Annals of Lubińskie" and "Catalog of Wroclaw Bishops". From 1996, you can visit the impressive Prince's Hall with an area of over 400 m² and a height of 13.4 m. The hall, which occupies two floors of the building, includes, among others, sculptures of the Wroclaw master Józef Mangoldt as well as plafond and wall paintings of the painter Christian Bentum. This room is considered one of the most outstanding monuments of Silesian Baroque. Selected concerts of the annual International Wratislavia Cantans Festival take place there. The renovation was also completed and the abbot's refectory and summer refectory were made available to visitors (2005). At present (September 2009), conservation works are underway on the last great representative hall of the palace - the abbot's library. The former church of the Virgin Mary was also made available (unfortunately, with poor equipment). The entire facility can be visited on the second weekend of May each year during the Museum Night.
