The Silesian Piast Castle in Brzeg is commonly called the '' Silesian Wawel ''. According to the plebiscite, National Geographic Traveler is one of the 7 New Wonders of Poland. This residence was founded in the 13th century. The first mention of Brzeg and the castle in written sources appeared in 1235. The castle was the residence of the Duchy of Brest from its creation in 1311 until the extinction of this Piast line in 1675. In the Middle Ages, this building underwent five reconstructions. During the reign of Frederick II and his son Jerzy II, the Gothic seat was transformed and thoroughly rebuilt into one of the most remarkable Renaissance residences in this part of Europe. The block of the Gothic castle was incorporated into the newly created three-winged edifice, with the cloisters surrounding the inner courtyard and the richly decorated facade of the entrance gate. Currently, the castle is the Museum of the Silesian Piasts. He specializes in collecting monuments related to the history of the city, the Brest land and the Piast tradition in these areas. It has a rich collection of medieval art, Silesian and foreign painting from the 17th-18th centuries, graphics with views of the city and the castle and other Silesian cities, weapons from the 16th-20th centuries, items made by local craftsmen in the 13th-19th centuries, coins and Silesian medals from the 14th-20th centuries, documents and old prints. The collections of gingerbread molds, richly decorated guild boxes and clocks from the 17th-19th centuries are interesting. The real unique are: the chronicle of the Brest Fowl Brotherhood from 1623-1848, containing colorful portraits of chanterel kings, including Brest-Legnica princes, and a collection of 14 tin sarcophagi of the Brest-Legnica Piasts from the 16th-17th centuries
